MEloDIZER partner AquaBioTech Group took part in Aquaculture Europe 2026, held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 28 September to 1 October. The event gathered 2,522 attendees from 80 countries and is among the largest aquaculture conferences in Europe. This year’s theme, “Aquaculture in Global Change”, focused on climate adaptation, species resilience and circular economy tools.
AquaBioTech, together with Dr. Stefano Lancerotto, presented a study evaluating the growth performance of whiteleg shrimp reared in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) versus biofloc systems under restricted feeding conditions. The work highlights novel findings on nutrient use and metabolic adaptation in intensive culture environments. The study was partly funded by MEloDIZER, and the project logo and EU funding acknowledgement appeared in both the abstract and the presentation.
Aquaculture is a key area of the project. MEloDIZER develops next-generation membrane distillation (MD) technologies for industrial water reuse and decentralised desalination, and one of its demonstrators (Demo #2) targets nutrient-rich aquaculture wastewater, aiming to recover resources such as ammonia and phosphate. The project’s goal is to deliver sustainable membranes and modules that improve water recovery, energy efficiency, durability and the circular use of resources.
Taking part in an event like Aquaculture Europe brings MEloDIZER’s work in front of researchers, producers and industry representatives in one of the sectors the project directly addresses.
