Politecnico di Torino was the first Italian Engineering School, founded in the wave of the technical and scientific innovation that gave rise to the most prestigious European polytechnic schools in the mid-19th century. ROLE IN THE PROJECT
The coordination & management structure of MEloDIZER comprises the following bodies: Coordinator, prof. Alberto Tiraferri (PTO) will be ultimately responsible for the project coordination and act as intermediary between the Consortium and the European Commission (EC);
- Steering Committee (SC) comprising one member from each partner will be the decision-making body;
- Work Package Leaders (WPL) will be the executive body;
- Project Manager appointed within CNR who will assist the SC and PTO in the day-by-day technical management;
- Innovation Manager, appointed within BLT will support the SC and PTO in all those strategic decisions/actions aiming to maximise the impact of MEloDIZER;
- Advisory Board (AB), an external body of 5 relevant stakeholders, will provide feedback and advice as required.
The Institute on Membrane Technology (ITM) is one of the 88 Research Institutes of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR). CNR is the largest public research organization in Italy with ca. 7000 R&D personnel staff for a total of ca. 8500 employees. CNR-ITM is active in the field of membrane science, technology and engineering and has a multidisciplinary staff with expertise in chemical and process engineering, chemistry, industrial chemistry, biology, food science, etc. The mission of the Institute on Membrane Technology is the research and development in the field of membrane science and engineering. The research activities aim to promote knowledge, innovation, and high-level training in the field of membranes and their application in water treatment, gas separation, bioartificial organs, biotechnology, food and agriculture. The CNR-ITM is internationally recognized for its peculiar skills in membrane engineering, preparation of membranes (organic, inorganic, mixed matrix, biohybrid, catalytic), transport phenomena, selective separations at molecular level, catalytic membrane reactors, membrane contactors, integrated membrane processes.
ROLE IN THE PROJECT
CNR-ITM is Leader of WP2 (New green membranes and modules: fabrication and functionalization) and WP3 (New green membranes and modules: Characterisation and testing), participant of four other WPs and Project Manager of MELODIZER.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT
The main objective is demonstration of membranes and units for industrial wastewater management, by:
- preparing the testing sites, installation of the Demos, training, and planning of the experimental campaigns;
- demonstration of the performance of the Demos under different operating conditions, and assessment of the longterm stability and robustness of the membranes and of the systems;
- experimental data mining to validate the technical and energy performance of the Demos.
Research institutions, universities and laboratories choose our customized membrane distillation units for their own investigations. Research with our laboratory systems is being conducted for example in Qatar, Riyadh and Spain.
ROLE IN THE PROJECT
Opening new sectors of commercial opportunity thanks to the improvement of the existing MD systems (robustness, energy efficiency, flux performance). Without this improvement it will be a lot more difficult to achieve a broad market adaptation.
INOTEX spol. s r.o. (Ltd) is a small private technological research, innovation and technology transfer company specialised in wet processing of textiles, (multi)functional textile developments using new processing methods. The key strategy is to support implementation and transfer of the tailor-made research and technological development results into the practice by use of the own pilot production capacities (speciality chemicals and textile auxiliary agents production, low batch finishing and coating of textiles, special devices and instruments production).
ROLE IN THE PROJECT
Attain exploitable know-how related to wastewater in the textile industry. Knowledge transfer of wastewater reuse and recycling strategies to other stakeholders and textile companies.
Athenian Brewery is the largest beer production & distribution company in Greece, with over 55 years of active presence in the country and in the market. The company was founded in 1963 by a group of five Greek entrepreneurs, and it is a member of the HEINEKEN Group.
ROLE IN THE PROJECT
Optimization of resource consumption: approach zero liquid waste; partly supply the high-quality primary water needed for beer production; reduced cost by use of inexpensive materials in membranes and by use of waste heat to completely supply the MD systems.
WINGS is a company that delivers innovative, end-to-end digital solutions (software and hardware) and transformations for vertical sectors, namely; Environment / Nature, Utilities and Infrastructures, Production and Manufacturing and Service sectors, based on its extensive expertise in IoT, wireless infrastructures, AI and AR/VR.
ROLE IN THE PROJECT
The main objective is demonstration of membranes and units for passive solar drinking water production, by:
- preparing the testing sites, installation of the Demos, training, and planning of the experimental campaign;
- demonstration of the performance of the Demos under different operating conditions, and assessment of the usability and acceptance by the end users and local community;
- experimental data mining and model calibration for extrapolating the performance of the Demos in a broader variety of operating conditions.
AquaBioTech Group is based in Malta and operates globally, specializing in three main areas:
- aquaculture and fisheries consultancy
- contracted research in aquaculture nutrition, technology and vaccines, as well as development and testing services at its own independent, biosecure and fully licensed land-based aquaculture facilities including 48 various sized recirculation aquaculture systems (RAS)
- design and commissioning of land-based and marine aquaculture production systems and technologies.
ROLE IN THE PROJECT
Commercialization of improved RAS design with reduced water uses by incorporating the MD system. The new technology will help reduce nutrient level in wastewater and reduce overall water usage.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT
The main objective is quantifying the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the components and technologies innovated in the project and to guide the technical advancements:
- perform Life-Cycle Analysis (LCA) on the MD implementations to ensure circular economy goals;
- conduct techno-economic assessment & LCCA to confirm the feasibility of membranes and systems;
- identify social impacts of the MD implementations;
- analyse the regulatory framework;
- quantify market opportunities and identify market entry strategies.

Its activities include the promotion, introduction and improvement of renewable energies on the energy market, as well as promotion of technology transfer, training and scientific outreach.

Aalborg University is a young university with only 40 years of history. Since its establishment in 1974, AAU has been characterised by a problem-based and project-oriented teaching method (PBL) – also called the Aalborg Model, and by extensive collaboration with the surrounding society.

Warrant Hub S.p.A. is a privately held consultancy services company that provides full-spectrum consulting in business finance. The European Funding Division (EFD) team provides consultancy, training and support on European Funding opportunities, and in the preparation, negotiation and management of European Proposals, particularly on H2020 calls. EFD offers also support for communication and dissemination activities, and periodically participates into and organizes sectional seminars and networking events with/for industrial associations, SMEs, policy makers, etc. thus having the opportunity to disseminate the project results to relevant audiences.

WP9 leader. The MEloDIZER dissemination, communication and exploitation measures are focused on broadcasting the project’s potential, raising awareness amongst all stakeholders, and ensuring post-project impact.

The targeted applications are those of water treatment but also of gas separation and gas / liquid transfers.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT
Optimization of proprietary lotusTM membrane for MD applications in terms of module, cartridges. Commercialization of new membrane contactor cartridges to OEM, which will build MD system for desalination or treatment of industrial wastes.
The company enGits GmbH is a French/German family business and was founded in 2006 by Valérie and Oliver Gloth. We work in different areas of fluid mechanics. Our goal is to make cutting edge solutions available for the daily work of an engineer. They should not only be affordable but also lead to measurable economical and technological benefits. In the past, amongst other projects, we have enabled the development of a new product in the oil and gas industry and helped to reduce the operating costs of tunnel ventilation systems by employing modern simulation technology (smaller machines and lower power consumption).

ROLE IN THE PROJECT
WP5 will receive the membrane components from WP2 and provide the design and construction of the 4 Demos taking the site-specific boundary conditions of the sites into consideration, for efficient deployment on site.
