MEloDIZER participated in the high‑level workshop “Seawater Sourcing for Renewable Hydrogen and Chemicals”, held in Brussels on 8–9 June 2023. The event, jointly organised by the European Innovation Council, DG Research & Innovation, the Clean Hydrogen Joint Undertaking, the EuroTech Universities Alliance and the EU project ANEMEL, brought together experts from academia, industry and policy.

Discussions focused on reducing the water footprint of large‑scale production of renewable fuels of non‑biological origin (RFNBOs) and on the potential of seawater as a sustainable feedstock. Participants explored desalination technologies, circular concepts for water and CO₂ co‑capture, and innovative approaches for mineral recovery from brine.

For MEloDIZER, the workshop represented an important opportunity to highlight the role of advanced membrane distillation (MD) in enabling sustainable water sourcing and supporting the transition to low‑carbon energy systems.
